The Other Half keeps pointing out all the negative reviews about this show and how advertisers are staying away. I say these are advertisers in NYC and Chicago. Not the heart of the country where this show will positively blow up. Seriously. Mark my words now, “Friday Night Lights” will be the break-out show of the season. Not because the EW’s of the world love it, but because the heartland will love it. And they’ll be right. For the past month all the buzz for FNL has been beyond positive so this early guess of mine may be right on the money. We'll know with ratings tomorrow.
The show, named after the movie, named after the book, takes a realistic, almost reality show, look at high school football in the football obsessed state of Texas. I liked the movie but I think an hour long drama shot in the same frenetic, reality-like style will do even better. The football season is a perfect encapsulation for a weekly series with one Friday night game, and its prep, taking up an hour episode. This is almost a no-brainer and the cinematography is almost as good as the film and is shot in the cinematic widescreen style.
