The word is out. The Sci Fi Channel has ordered 22 full length episodes of Battlestar Gallactica for its fourth season ON TOP OF a 2-hour special to air in the fall. This is the best news I’ve heard since this morning in the bathroom.
Sunday marks the season finale. I can’t wait.
Oh, and Sci Fi is one of those few NBC Universal properties that is almost perfect (still needs HD).

Everybody get ready. I’m about to blast BSG. Yeah, I know. I’m a fanboy, but last night’s episode was awful. We’ve got all this interesting stuff going on like the end to an entire line of Cylons, the capture of Baltar and 6 and the whole Starbuck/Apollo thing. So what do we get this week? Character development episode! Yay!!!
And not only is it a character development episode, it’s one where we get to learn more about and supposedly grow to like Helo. Yay!
Frag me. I’m not going to recap the episode because I don’t want my readers to fall asleep but it was bad. The Helo plot could’ve been half the episode instead of the entire thing while we get just a glimpse of 6 and her imaginary Baltar. The introduction of imaginary Baltar was one of the biggest of the show and we all want more. What do we get? About 90 seconds.
Lame. Then there’s the dire warning about the trial. But just the dire warning, no solution. Lame. I don’t think BSG will drag out each episode like this, I believe they really wanted to highlight Help for some reason. Still, it could get ugly if every episode has tiny bits of goodness sprinkled through secondary characters’ lives.
Final thought: Anyone get the title of the episode?
How good was that? Seriously, last night’s episode was spectacular with a few minor bumps and bruises. While it picked up perfectly from the midseason cliffhanger, there was some slight “let’s skate over some major plot points.”
In the temple when Baltar shoots Quantum Leap Cylon why doesn’t he just take out Xena Cylon while he’s at it? He needed to step into the light! That was silly. And of course the major question is who was the fifth Cylon that Xena saw? Now for any non-braindead among us we’re thinking its Starbuck after the episode ending shocker.
Speaking of the end…didn’t it seem too sweet of a finale? I mean they get Baltar back in custody, get the super baby back and there is a new pointer towards Earth.
The weird thing is I liked Xena/D’Anna more than Cavil and now the whole line has been shelved, so that means no more Xena? Sigh…and I was getting used to the Cylon sandwiches.
Did I miss something? When did Kat become a favorite character? [Spoilers following for DVR folk] She certainly wasn’t well-liked, shown in a good light etc. since she was introduced. I don’t know who the actor is but if her job was to play someone who wouldn’t gain a fan following she did her job. Yet after she dies [that’s the spoiler] we treat her like she’s on the same level as Starbuck. Bah.
The episode was actually very weak, especially compared to last week’s excellent boxing match and flashback character development. At least we got some Cylon action (and yet another shot of the cylon-human-cylon sandwich). Baltar seems a little obsessed that he’s a Cylon, but not any Cylon, one of the super secretive ones no one has seen yet. Uh huh, sure.
Otherwise, we're treated to a "oh no, our food/water/medicine is running out we have to do something drastic and lose a few civilian ships along the way" plot.
This week looks to shake things up and ramp the action back up as everyone looks for Jupiter. Let’s hope it live up to the promos as this is one of the few shows that is airing anything new this month.
This seems to be a weekly thing here. We didn’t mean it to be it just turned out that way. Here we are on another Monday following our weekend watching habits. Besides "Battlestar Gallactica" we pretty much skip Saturday, record SNL, and watch football all weekend up to "60 Minutes." Then I try and squeeze in a "Simpsons" and "Family Guy" episode between football while "Desperate Housewives" records for The Other Half.
No matter how good "Family Guy" is, and it hasn’t been great this year, the best show every weekend is "Battlestar Gallactica." There isn’t a more suspenseful show on TV besides "Prison Break" and serials like that are almost all suspense so that’s kind of an unfair comparison.
I like how a sci-fi show tackles humanity more than most “real world” dramas. This week was a bit out there with the usually moral president deciding to commit genocide on the Cylons. The bizarre interplay of Baltar and the Cylons is an indulgence that I revel in. The entire torture/sex scene just blew me away, and not just because of Tricia Helfer. It was intense and seemed a pivotal moment in all three characters’ future on the show.
Each episode goes by too quickly and to me that is one of the earmarks of a great series. That and the fact that I’d actually consider buying the DVDs.
"60 Minutes" did a terrific job with the Ed Bradley tribute. Although did we have to hear from Andy Rooney?
After four house calls to Comcast to get my HD channels fixed (long story but it was a line issue despite the last Comcast guy telling me it was my HD DVR box, which was brand new) I’m a bit perplexed at why more channels aren’t in HD. Once you get the service and have a big TV you don’t want to watch anything else. After a week with limited HD access I was jonesing for its return but of course was still able to watch the new episode of BSG Friday because Sci Fi is not in HD.
I just listened to a podcast with Ronald D. Moore, exec producer of “Battlestar Gallactica,” and he said they film the show in HD and obviously they release everything on DVD, so why isn’t the one channel almost perfectly made for HD broadcasting in HD?
Maybe I’m wrong but does anyone get Sci-Fi in HD? If so where in the nation and what cable/satellite provider? Is this worth a petition to NBC corporate? As you know Zucker loves us and I’m sure he’d listen to a reasonable complaint.
And no, the channel doesn’t answer the question on its FAQ. I think having Sci Fi in HD would be a huge plus for it. The original programming is right up there with F/X and USA. Oh wait, those aren’t in HD either. This is almost as big a mistake as the CW not making its shows available on iTunes.
Image altered to look as crappy as I think regular Sci Fi looks on my TV.
Not much else. We’ve been having issues with Comcast and many of our HD channels have been out, mostly the major networks including NBC. Friday night I of course had to watch Battlestar Gallactica. Why the Sci-Fi Channel doesn’t come in HD is beyond me. Does it anywhere?
HD is addicting and you just start surfing for HD shows regardless of their content. I’ve watched more nature shows and live music than I have in the past few years in just a matter of weeks.
Oh BSG. Pretty good episode.
